Someone wrote me and asked how to pick a prey supplier, what I looked for when choosing one. I'd never really thought about it before, so jotted down some thoughts...
Find out how long they've been doing it, size of typical orders, what they feed the rodents, how they kill them...
I'd want someone who has been doing it for several years, is used to filling order of the size I am likely to place (for me that's about 400-600 rodents every 3-4 months), and feed foods that I consider healthy (little or no dog food; lab block, grains, veggies, with free access to fresh water). Also, find out what they are housed on - if cedar, forget it. I prefer someone who kills humanely - such as with CO2 gas - than someone who goes into mass thumping or suffocating in bags or freezing.
