High-Risk Humans

Those at higher risk to becoming sick from infections of any type include:

• infants

• children up to age 5 (or 7, depending on the source)

• anyone with a compromised, impaired, or suppressed immune system, including cancer patients, organ recipients, blood and blood product recipients, HIV and AIDS

• the elderly

• in some cases, pregnant women and their fetuses
