Blue Iguana Recovery Fund Donation Button

The Blue Iguana Recovery Fund helps fund ongoing conservation efforts in breeding-for-release, community education, and habitat conservation programs in the Cayman Islands for the endangered Cyclura lewisi. Help support their work by making direct donations, or buy one of their new King Blue Bobbleheads!

Also, check out a day in the life of a volunteer at the BIR facility doing noosing, measuring, behavior observations and more.

SIX BLUE IGUANAS MURDERED IN BOTANIC PARK
Press release May 5, 2008

Additional information is linked to my May 5 Lizards-In-Scarves blog.

The majority of this majestic genus, cousins to the green iguana, are on CITES I - Endangered. To find the current status of each species, use the CITES Species search engine, searching for Genus: Cyclura, Countries: All Countries.

My Cyclura site at the University of Indiana is a bit out of date in terms of recent research, but it does have a good index of species information, as well as David Blair's Cyclura care information.

For more current research, taxonomy, and conservation information, the must-see site is Cyclura.com.

If you'd like to know a bit about what it's like to have one as a pet, I've been keeping a log on Mikey, my captive bred hybrid.

For an overview of the species and captive requirements, see Marie Eguro's Before You Get A Cyclura and Cyclura: The Endangered Iguanas of the West Indies articles.
